Main Roads reduces waiting period at traffic signals

3 March 2009
Main Roads has begun trialling new signal timings for the existing traffic signals on Carnarvon Bridge (Quart Pot Creek) from today (3 March).
Main Roads Regional Director Tony Platz said the decision to reduce the current waiting time at the traffic signals was a result of feedback received from local residents and road users.
“Feedback received from the community indicated the waiting time in place at the traffic signals was currently too long and Main Roads has acted and reduced the timing to ensure traffic can flow efficiently,” Mr Platz said.
In a further effort to observe traffic waiting periods and current usage of the bridge, Main Roads will again install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to assist in determining the best traffic efficiency options for motorists.
“The CCTV cameras will examine the current changed traffic conditions at the Quart Pot Creek bridge site and determine a fixed timing,” Mr Platz said.
“The use of the cameras will assist Main Roads in understanding these conditions while we continue to work towards short-term solutions for both pedestrians and motorists using the bridge.
”Main Roads will continue to look at funding options for long-term solutions for the pedestrian walkway located at the bridge."
“The community’s patience and feedback has been outstanding since the new traffic conditions were introduced late last year and we thank all pedestrians and motorists for continuing to obey
the new traffic signage and signals”
“Please continue to travel with caution when crossing the Quart Pot Creek Bridge.”
Updates on the project are available on both the council website and Main Roads’ website at www.mainroads.qld.gov.au.
