Southern Downs libraries innovate with online tutoring

Students in the Southern Downs can now get free study help online at their local library or at home through the new innovative YourTutor service that has recently been introduced to the region.

Principal Librarian Samantha Shelbourn said that YourTutor is a unique learning service that connects students via the internet to qualified, expert tutors for individual conversation about homework, assignments and exam preparation.

“The tutors are experts in maths, english, science, assignment research and study skills and are online Monday to Friday from 4pm-8pm,” Ms Shelbourn said.

“Students can connect to the service either from a library computer or from their own computer at home.”

“Help is immediate, anonymous, professional, secure and free to all library members.”

Students from years 4 to 12 simply log on to the library’s website or visit www.yourtutor.com.au and follow the links to ask a tutor for help. To access the service from home, participants will need their library bar code number.

All tutors are Australian trained and are certified teachers, professional tutors, post graduates or advanced undergraduates at Australian universities. They are able to review specific homework and assignment questions using features like controlled chat, interactive whiteboards and shared web browsing.

YourTutor is provided by Tutoring Australasia, an Australian owned and located company. The service is available at over 350 libraries and is used by more than 100,000 students Australia wide to improve learning outcomes.
