National Youth Week Nominations 2011
Posted: February 9, 2011
As part of the celebrations for National Youth Week (NYW) for 2011 the Youth Development workers Rebecca Schroder and Bonita Tyler are organising two awards nights (one in Stanthorpe and one in Warwick) to celebrate the contributions of young people to the communities across the Southern Downs Regional Council area.
NYW is a joint Australian, state, territory and local government initiative. NYW is coordinated by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, in collaboration with the state and territory government departments responsible for youth affairs.
The theme for National Youth Week for 2011 is ‘OWN IT’ and will be held from Friday the 1st – Sunday 10th of April.
Under the theme of ‘Own It’ we decided it would be a good year for young people to nominate and be nominated for awards which acknowledge the contributions Young People make to the development and life of small communities. Each year we see 100’s of young people volunteer to help with youth and community projects across the Southern Downs and it would be great to see some of those people recognised for the time they give our community.
We would like to encourage everyone to think about a young person who makes a difference in their workplace, sport or community.
