Commercial businesses, within all defined garbage service areas in the Southern Downs Region, can now participate in kerbside recycling, just like residential premises.

Manager Environmental Services, Matt Fraser emphasised however that the service is voluntary for businesses.

“Businesses can choose to have a 240 litre recyclable wheelie bin service once a fortnight for a fee in 2009/10 of $126.00 plus GST”, Mr Fraser said.

Items that can be placed in the recyclable wheelie bin include recyclable plastics numbered 1-6, aluminium, glass, paper/cardboard, and steel. For larger items that do not fit into the wheelie bin, recyclable items can be taken to Council’s waste facilities.

Information on opening hours and acceptable items is available by contacting Council’s Customer Service Unit on 4681 5500 (Stanthorpe office) or 4661 0300 (Warwick office).

Council would encourage businesses to participate in this important service which will reduce the amount of material disposed of in landfill.
