Australia Day Award nominees sought
It’s that time of year when we look to recognise some of our community’s finest achievers through the Australia Day Awards program.
Mayor Ron Bellingham today called on the people of the Southern Downs to search the community for worthy nominees for the 2010 Awards.
“The Awards are an important way of recognising the outstanding contribution of individuals and groups, who through their commitment and effort make our region a better place to live,” Mayor Bellingham said.
“We are not necessarily looking for well known people, we are looking for people whose efforts inspire us and are worthy of recognition.”
Nominations are being called in both the former Warwick and Stanthorpe areas as Australia Day celebrations will take place in both communities in 2010.
Australia Day Awards will be presented in eight categories:
• Citizen of the Year;
• Junior Citizen of the Year;
• Community Event of the Year;
• Cultural;
• Junior Cultural;
• Sports;
• Junior Sports; and
• Sports Administrator.
“If you know of any individual or group who you believe is worthy of recognition, please take the time to nominate them for the 2010 Australia Day Awards,” Mayor Bellingham said.
Nomination forms can be collected from Council Offices and Libraries, or may be downloaded from the Council website www.southerndowns.qld.gov.au. Nominations close on Friday January 8.
