This Valentine’s Day, fall in love with the future of your Region
Posted: February 13, 2012
All residents are invited to fall in love with the future of the Southern Downs Region at the launch of the new Southern Downs Community Plan 2030 tomorrow, Tuesday 14 February 2012 from 5pm.
The launch event will be a celebration of the new community directions, hosted by well-loved poet Marco Gliori, with free musical entertainment by Aperitif Jazz Ensemble and a BBQ.
Speakers will outline the 20 year vision for the Region laid out in the plan, which has been developed after thousands of pieces of input by local residents.
“This Community Plan will be the most important document in this region,” said Mayor Ron Bellingham.
“It’s not a magic wand, but it will empower and support funding applications with state and federal government bodies, as well as provide opportunities for partnerships across sectors,” Cr Bellingham said.
“It is important that people come along and learn how it may impact them and how it will be put into action.”
The launch starts at Leslie Park band rotunda, Warwick, from 5pm with a free BBQ and entertainment by the Aperitif Jazz Ensemble.
Local poet extraordinaire Marco Gliori will host the official ceremonies from 5:30 to 6:00pm, with free musical entertainment and food continuing through to 7:00pm.
Council will have staff on hand to talk to community groups about how to work with the plan to achieve their goals and aspirations.
“Whether you are with a church group, a sporting group, a charity, kindergarten, arts and culture or any other type of community group, this is a great chance to find out how best to work within the new Community Plan,” said Manager Community Development Sheila Stebbings.
“Future state and local government funding is likely to reference and be linked to this plan,” Mrs Stebbings said.
“Aligning your project with SD2030 will offer you better leverage for funding opportunities and help to achieve the important visions that the Southern Downs Community has for our region.”
In the event of wet weather, the launch will be moved to the Senior Citizens hall on Albert Street, Warwick.
