42 Community organisations have been awarded grants from the latest funding round of the Southern Downs Regional Council General Grants Program.

Round 2 for 2011/2012, which opened on January 23 and closed February 17, was well received by the community, with 44 community organisations submitting applications under one or more general grant categories.

Mayor Ron Bellingham said he was pleased to support community groups which do essential work to make the Southern Downs a great place to live.

“These groups, mostly run by volunteers, are the lifeblood of our community, so it’s with great pleasure that Council is able to assist them with some funding,” Cr Bellingham said.

As some of the general grant categories have conditions of approval, it is important that community organisations ensure they comply with the conditions and submit any required documentation as soon as possible to ensure payment of their approved grant within the current financial year.

Funding under the General Grants program is offered in two rounds each financial year, and Round 1 for 2012/2013 will open for applications in August.

General grants cover four categories including fee relief for certain statutory Council fees (up to $1000), fee relief for Council garbage disposal fees for garbage produced at an event conducted by a community group (up to $500), Monetary Donation - sponsorship (up to $150) and Monetary Donation - Capital project (up to $500).
