Sport and Recreation

The Southern Downs is fast becoming renowned as a regional sports centre with first-rate facilities. National and international sporting events combine with popular team sports, equestrian excellence and an extensive program at the Warwick Indoor Recreation and Aquatic Centre (WIRAC).

The range of activities include golf, lawn bowls, four codes of football, horse racing, equine sports, rodeo, hockey, netball, basketball, tennis, croquet, volleyball, cricket - outdoor and indoor, shooting - pistols, rifles and clay targets, archery, skateboarding and gliding.

Leisure activities include fishing, water sports, bush walking, national parks, four wheel driving and motor cycle clubs. 

Leslie Dam
12 kilometres west of Warwick, in addition to providing Warwick's town water supply, is also a major venue for recreational activities. The Dam is popular for fishing, skiing, camping and day visitors. A Youth Camp with adjacent recreational playing fields is also located within the manicured grounds, which are popular for day visitors to enjoy the barbecue facilities provided.

Camping facilities are available at the Washpool Recreation Reserve in the vicinity of Leslie Dam. Camping fees apply and should you wish to fish in the Dam a permit is required. Details are available from the Customer Service Centre and/or the Reserve Manager. The Reserve Manager can be contacted on (07) 4661 7844 or mobile 0418 870 354. The camping grounds have recently had new shower facilities constructed and combined with the vast array of activities available (ie skiing, fishing, canoeing, etc) make this a most attractive venue.

Morgan Park
Join in the excitement of Morgan Park with all its ‘horsepower’ variety and exhilaration, located just five minutes from Warwick’s CBD. Morgan Park has hosted many significant events, including the inaugural Polocrosse World Cup, Horse Trials World Cup Qualifier and state championships in motor racing.

Morgan Park is the State Equestrian Centre for Polocrosse and Eventing and hosts competitions at international, national and state levels. It is home to the Warwick Horse Trials Club, Warwick Polocrosse Club and the Carriage Driving Club.

The Warwick District Sporting Car Club boasts a 2.2km sealed circuit track and conducts motor sport events every weekend of the year.
The Warwick District Drag Racing Association has developed a 200m drag strip with a 550m secondary breaking area; while the Warwick and District Dirt Bike Club have built a motocross track with large pit areas.

Warwick Golf Club
Situated in Hawker Road, the Warwick Golf Club is an 18 hole course, only 5 minutes from the heart of Warwick. The Club offers family meals, pokies and equipment hire and is well known as a great country course.

Stanthorpe Sports and Country Club
With 9 hole golf course situated in idyllic surroundings on Amosfield Road Stanthorpe, the club offers family meals, pokies and equipment hire.  The complex also includes a professional lawn bowls and croquet green.  For more information, call 07 4681 1276

Carnell Raceway
Located at Rifle Range Road Stanthorpe, Carnell Raceway is an 880m short circuit track operated by the Stanthorpe & District Sporting Car Club.  For details on the venue and future meets, call Mick Irwin on 07 4681 2531.

Storm King Dam
A short drive from Stanthorpe along Sugarloaf Road/Eukey Road, Storm King Dam offers some good angling opportunities for Murray Cod, Yellow-belly & Liver Perch.  Any person wishing to operate a boat on Storm King Dam should contact Council's Customer Service Centre Stanthorpe on 07 4681 5500 to apply for a permit. 

Stanthorpe YMCA

Warwick Tennis Centre
Located on the corner of Fitzroy and Lyons street, the Warwick Tennis Centre has 10 courts, convieniently situated in the heart of Warwick.
