Southern Downs Regional Council Tourism Strategy Feedback

What is the Southern Downs Regional Council Tourism Strategy?

Southern Downs Regional Council (SDRC) plays a critical role in the development of tourism within the Southern Downs Region. The Tourism Strategy is based on an appraisal of the industry conducted in February and March 2012.
Building a competitive destination and establishing the Southern Downs as a leading inland tourism region that will provide direction for the tourism industry as a whole is the purpose of the Tourism Strategy.
Making sure that the experience on offer matches or exceeds the visitors’ expectations, and that the Southern Downs as a Region is focused on developing compelling reasons to visit forms part of the rationale of this document.
The aim of the consultation process was to establish longer term priorities for the tourism industry and identify how Council can maximize return on existing and ongoing investment in the industry.
The focus was both regional and local and the strategy presented to Council encompasses both broader regional strategies and initiatives together with more localised priorities and tactics.

Why is Council asking for Feedback?

At the Southern Downs Regional Council Community Services Committee Meeting, held on Wednesday, 15 August 2012 it was agreed that Tourism operators and the community generally be asked to provide written feedback on the Tourism Strategy Background Report and the Tourism Strategy document.
