Southern Downs Futures Plan: Your Say, Our Future

Community members in the Southern Downs area are being asked to be part of the development and implementation of a plan for the future of the area.

The plan belongs to the community in partnership with Council.  Southern Downs Regional Council is working with key community members to give residents several opportunities to raise issues such as community services and facilities, employment and business development, education and training, health and well-being etc.  The project is overseen by a range of people representing many aspects of the community.

The plan will reflect the values and interests of residents in a set of actions for local government, state government, the private sector and the community itself to do to maintain the vitality of the area.  These actions will help residents to better access services, develop the local economy, and improve our assets and lifestyle.

A Focus on Action

The Council and the community members overseeing the plan are committed to following through on action.  Community members will retain regular oversight of the implementation of the plan for years to come.

Many of the actions identified will be the responsibility of Council, state government, federal government, local business or the community itself.  These responsible entities will need to be approached to address actions.  Some actions may be easily addressed, others may involve investment over many years.  Having funds and effort committed to actions would be enhanced by having a clear set of actions that have come from the people of the area.  Without a plan, the chances of action will be limited.
